1270D gem-set skeleton movement
Driving back the limits of the possible ever further, the Manufacture has produced its first automatic ultra-thin, skeletonized, diamond-set tourbillon movement a unique feat in the sector. Piaget even gem-set the two sides of the caliber 1270D, as well as the profiles of the bridges and certain screws, for a total of 56 brilliant-cut diamonds (approx. 1.9 ct). The setting of a single caliber takes 47 hours. 71 baguette-cut diamonds (approx. 1.1 ct) form a glittering 8 around the rings on the fringe of the flying tourbillon cage and the platinum oscillating weight, whose surface is also entirely gem-set. Fashioned in 14K gold, the 1270D movement is a mere 5.71 mm high and boasts three different gem-setting techniques: channel setting, bead setting and advanced bead setting. True to its motto "Always do better than necessary", Piaget has enhanced this exclusive mechanism with the ultimate "image" level of finishing – entirely hand-crafted.
